I’ve tried a lot of things in the name of wellness: beet root juice, ashwagandha pills the size of a baby carrot, a charcoal latte (that tasted as bad as it sounds). And my usual stance—both as the Senior Wellness Editor and as a holistic health coach—is that most wellness trends are marketing fads. So when a viral green powder promised to replace my vitamin cabinet, support gut health, boost immunity, and give me the glow of someone who sleeps nine hours a night (couldn’t be me), I was skeptical—but intrigued.
AG1 Next Gen has been making the rounds in both biohacker and convenience-seeker circles alike, promising the kind of nutritional support that initially sounds too good to be true. I’ve built my career around cutting through the clutter of health trends to get to what’s actually effective, evidence-based, and worth your money. And while I’m not one to fall for influencer hype, AG1 Next Gen intrigued me—not just because of its cult following, but also because of the science-backed formulation that claims to support energy, digestion, immunity, and recovery all in one scoop. So I did what any wellness girl would do: I tried it every day for seven days and did extensive research to get to the bottom of the viral powder. Here’s what I found.
What is AG1, and how does it work?
The greens powder combines vitamins, minerals, and nutrients designed to promote gut health, support immunity, boost energy and mood, and help you recover faster from workouts and physical activity. With an upgraded probiotic blend and added vitamins and minerals, AG1 Next Gen has been clinically shown to support gut health and close common nutrient gaps. And to make the daily ritual even more enjoyable, AG1 Next Gen is available in three new flavors: Tropical, which tastes like papaya and passionfruit, Citrus, which tastes like lemon and orange, and Berry, which tastes like blueberry and strawberry. The new lineup offers a more personalized experience without compromising the formula’s integrity.
As someone who falls into the camp of health-conscious and wanting to set myself up for success (but in an easy and accessible routine I can do daily, even with a busy schedule or travel), I like that all you have to do is blend one scoop into water for a wide range of nutrients (much better than taking a handful of pills). If all I had to do was buy, mix, and drink liquefied powder for enviable benefits, I wanted in.
AG1 Nutrition Facts and Ingredients
While I refer to the supplement as a greens powder throughout this article, AG1 is more than simply a substitute for your dark leafy greens. The recommended daily serving (a single scoop) supplies:
- Vitamins and minerals to support immune health and strengthen your nervous system
- Prebiotics and probiotics to provide digestive support
- Superfood-derived phytonutrients that support the microbiome
- Immune-supporting mushrooms
- Adaptogenic herbs and antioxidants to relieve stress and provide metabolic and energy support
- Plant-based digestive enzymes
The most impressive part to me was not only the research but also the results of that research. Studies found AG1 improves key nutrient levels within three months (for example, in a clinical trial AG1 increased vitamin C levels by 33% and increased healthy bacteria in the gut).

AG1 review from our editor
I set out to see how AG1 would fare with my already-established wellness routine. That meant working out on the same schedule as I always do, aiming for the same amount of sleep, and not making any major changes to my diet. While my first week on AG1 was by no means a deeply scientific study, I wanted to know if I would feel any different by simply adding the supplement to my everyday habits.
Day 1
As suggested, AG1 was the first thing I consumed in the morning. Before my matcha latte or coffee, I mixed a scoop of AG1 with 8 ounces of water (AG1 does make it easy, sending a bottle you can use to shake the powder with water, which I used to get a frothy green drink). Hesitant but curious to consume the vanilla flavor reviews claimed, I took a sip.
As someone who prefers earthier flavors (if liking unsweetened matcha is wrong, I don’t want to be right!), I was a little worried that the vanilla flavor would be a bit too sweet. But all in all, it was well-balanced and didn’t have me plugging my nose like other greens powders I’ve downed in my day. Notably, the water I mixed it in was almost room temperature, so I knew there was room for improvement in the tasting experience. But for a first go, I didn’t have any aversions to it.
That said, there are now additional flavors of AG1 Next Gen for those looking for something different. Tropical is fruit-forward, Citrus is crisp and zesty, and Berry is the perfect balance of sweet and tart—all designed to brighten your morning routine. It’s a thoughtful update for anyone who might have a personal preference outside of Original.
Day 2
Adopting a different approach, I shook up my scoop with water and ice. That drop in temperature made a significant difference in the taste and experience. When I drank the AG1 this time, it had a clearer, crisper flavor and mouthfeel and was smoother than my first attempt. Feeling like a wellness queen, I plopped my AG1 down next to my laptop as I started my day sifting through my inbox. Though the placebo effect was obviously at play, something about having that green bottle next to me made me feel a bit more productive. There are worse things.
Day 3
I woke up and noticed that my skin was significantly glowier and brighter than it usually is at this point in my cycle. I went to the kitchen, shook up my AG1, and found that I was already beginning to look forward to the flavor. That morning, I texted a few friends who had tried AG1. The ones who prefer really sweet beverages mentioned that for them, the taste took a little getting used to and that they started looking forward to their daily dose between their third and seventh day. So by those standards, I was smooth sailing.
Day 4
AG1’s Instagram is full of ideas for consuming their product beyond shaking it into water. So, I tried their ultimate summer smoothie bowl recipe to mix things up. After adding almond butter, banana, apple, dates, and almond milk, the powder was nearly undetectable. The new flavors also make it even easier to integrate AG1 Next Gen into recipes. Citrus works well in green smoothies or with banana and ginger, while Berry blends naturally into anything with almond butter, berries, or cacao. I could see this becoming a go-to breakfast with some added protein. This was the first day I noticed a subtle physiological change. I had more energy during my afternoon Lagree workout and—day five spoiler—wasn’t at all sore when I woke up the next day.
Day 5
The wake-up on day five was one of the best I can recall in recent history. With little effort, I got up immediately to my 6:30 a.m. alarm and went straight into a few morning stretches and a brief meditation. While I would consider myself a morning person, this level of alertness was out of the ordinary. Mentally, I felt sharp, aligned, and motivated to transition to my to-do list. I made the same AG1-infused smoothie as I did the day before and discovered an additional burst of energy after finishing my glass. I made it through my morning to-dos while staying on task and focused. Thanks, AG1.
Day 6
While my wake-up call on day six wasn’t as miraculous as it was on day five, I did sleep soundly and awoke feeling rested. Craving my usual savory breakfast, I opted for AG1 and ice water. Interestingly, it took until today to notice that my craving for a second mid-morning coffee had disappeared entirely. Instead, my single cup sufficed in terms of both my energy levels and feeling satiated post-breakfast.
To say that my energy levels stayed steady throughout the day would be an understatement—and when something solves my dwindling energy, I have to shout it from the rooftops. I noticed an easy wind-down after dinner and was able to fall asleep quickly and soundly. That’s a lot to be said for someone who deals with occasional bouts of insomnia.
Day 7
By day seven, my daily rhythms had come to expect the AG1 before all else, and I have to admit: There was something comforting and ritualistic about sipping on it first thing. While I said I wouldn’t make any significant changes to my diet, I did notice that the supplement naturally inspired me to make more nutrient-dense choices. I kept up a consistent pattern of greens throughout the day: a protein-packed salad for lunch, a green smoothie for a snack, and a tall pile of roasted veggies to accompany that night’s meal. Something about doing good things for my body in the morning inspired me to keep up the momentum all day long. Can AG1 inspire a mindset shift? The correlation likely isn’t strong enough to call it fact, but after my first week on the greens powder, I could confirm with confidence: The results I saw were enough to keep me going.
How much does AG1 cost?
AG1 offers a variety of packages; the most popular option is the monthly subscription, which is either $79 a month for 30 servings or $149 a month for 60 servings (a good option if a roommate or significant other also wants to partake, so you can split). My first reaction was that $79 felt steep for supplements. But once I realized how many nutrients are packed into one product, it actually started to feel more like a steal (girl math?)—my current lineup of separate probiotics, multivitamins, greens, etc. adds up to a lot more.
The monthly subscription comes down to about $2.50 per serving (a fraction of your Starbucks habit), and with the additional products I got with my first month (the first subscription order also comes with a canister, shaker, a handful of travel packs, and a year’s supply of AG1’s vitamin D3 + K2 product), I actually was pleasantly surprised at the cost. Not ready to commit? A one-time 30-serving packet is $99 (but my tip, girl-to-girl: you can cancel your subscription anytime, so it doesn’t feel like a scary commitment). Plus, with the new AG1 Next Gen flavors, you can make your morning routine even more your own.
Is AG1 worth it?
Since my initial review, I’ve gone through the entire first month of AG1 and did not hesitate about keeping the subscription going. Over the month, I’ve loved the ease of having a one-stop shop for a wide variety of nutrients that will not only fill nutrition gaps (especially important when I’m traveling or busy and eating out of my usual routine) but also offer powerful superfoods, probiotics, and more for a wide range of benefits. Now rest assured: As many nutritionists will confirm, you don’t need a fancy supplement to meet your daily requirements for vitamins and minerals. But with the positive results I experienced (most noticeably better energy and digestion), I deem it to be worth every penny.
Ultimately, this is a convenient product that played into my brain’s positive reward centers. The routine of prepping AG1 each morning before breakfast (or as a part of my morning meal) signaled that I was doing something good for my body. It helped set the foundation for those habits to continue throughout the day. A transformed perspective and more energy? That’s what we like to call a win-win.
FAQ About AG1
Who is AG1 best for?
AG1 is designed for anyone who wants to simplify their wellness routine without compromising on quality, whether you’re a high-performing athlete, a busy corporate girlie, or someone who just wants to feel better in their body. It’s especially ideal for people who are mindful of their health but don’t always have time for a 12-step supplement regimen.
Are there side effects to AG1?
AG1 is formulated to be well-tolerated by most people, and its ingredients are generally recognized as safe. That said, anytime you introduce new nutrients, your body might need a short adjustment period. If you have specific health conditions or are on medication, it’s always a good idea to check in with your healthcare provider before starting any new supplement routine.
Is AG1 as good as eating vegetables?
Nothing replaces whole vegetables, but AG1 delivers a good amount of foundational nutrients. It’s not meant to be a swap for arugula salads or roasted Brussels sprouts, but it is a smart safety net. Think of it as nutritional insurance rather than a replacement for a well-balanced diet.
Do you lose weight on AG1?
AG1 isn’t a weight loss product; it’s designed to support your overall health. That said, many users report experiencing better energy, reduced cravings, improved digestion, and more balanced blood sugar after taking AG1 consistently, all of which can support weight management as part of a healthy lifestyle. If you’re working toward body composition goals, AG1 can be a helpful tool in your routine, but the focus is on nourishment, not restriction. It’s about giving your body what it needs to feel good, function optimally, and support long-term wellness from the inside out.
What does AG1 do to your body?
AG1 works behind the scenes to support your body’s core functions (think: digestion, immunity, energy production, and nutrient absorption). With a formulation that includes whole-food-sourced vitamins, minerals, prebiotics, probiotics, adaptogens, and phytonutrients, AG1 helps fill nutritional gaps while supporting gut health, reducing oxidative stress, and promoting overall resilience. Over time, users often report more consistent energy, improved digestion, and a generally “better baseline” of feeling well. It’s not a quick fix; it’s consistent nourishment designed to help your body thrive.
