Something that might make me a little unlikable? I had a borderline “storybook holiday” childhood. Cookie exchanges, Christmas caroling (who even does that?), Black Friday parking-lot camping, and every gift perfectly wrapped under the tree.

But now, at nearly 30, with divorced parents, Q4 deadlines, and a cat who keeps scaling the tree, I’ve learned the hard truth: Adults don’t experience the magic of the holidays—we produce it.
