Even though I enjoy literally every literary genre, I often find myself stuck in the same reading cycles. I’ll either only read thrillers so terrifying they have me side-eyeing everyone on the street with paranoia or sad girl books that make me pray for rainy days so I can listen to Lana Del Rey and stare aesthetically out the window. Don’t get me wrong, I love those kinds of books. But every few weeks, I snap out of it, craving a read with one sole purpose: to put a smile on my face (albeit a small one because who’s really sitting there grinning ear to ear while looking at their Kindle?). I’m talking about the kind of feel-good books that warm your heart and restore your faith in humanity.
You may immediately think of light-hearted romances, and while those certainly fall under the feel-good book umbrella, there are also plenty of reads that, on the surface, may not seem light, but they have the most touching and uplifting stories. From literary fiction to mystery to romcoms, there’s a feel-good book out there for you. Whether you need a break from real-life stressors or just want to read something happy for a change, here are 15 feel-good books that deserve a spot on your TBR.

She will convince him that love stories matter—even if she has to kiss him senseless to do it.
Fredik Backman is always able to turn the most unexpected story into an incredibly touching read, and Anxious People is no different. None of them are who they appear to be, and all of them—the bank robber included—desperately crave some sort of rescue. As the authorities and the media surround the premises, these reluctant allies will reveal surprising truths about themselves and set in motion an unexpected chain of events.

Alice Scott is an eternal optimist still dreaming of her big writing break. Hayden Anderson is a Pulitzer-prize winning human thundercloud.
